When Chicken Soup for the Soul came out it was not the first book of inspirational stories to hit the book stand. However, the book did seem to carry an often overlooked genre into the mainstream. There are many well written and inspiring books geared to daily life, business leadership, and just about any other audience one might think of. These books can help motivate and rejuvenate one’s desires, one’s passions, one’s willingness to continue with renewed strength and aspirations, and sometimes even convince someone to step outside their comfort zone and find rewards in new challenges. True Miracles with Genealogy: Volume II is just such an inspirational book and, this one is compiled specifically for family historians.
True Miracles is a collection of 58 heart warming and inspirational stories of success and rewards every day people have experienced in working on their family genealogies. The miracles described in these stories will “comfort and fascinate” those who believe. Many of the stories are provided by LDS individuals and some cover Mormon Temple related themes; however, there are also stories from non-LDS people that cover equally inspiring miracles. The stories in this book will warm the follower of any faith who believe in divine inspiration.
Researchers are often persistent and unyielding in their efforts to uncover a family truth. However, these stories show that sometime it takes a miracle, an unexpected twist, to make the unlikely possible. Stories include finding ancestors due to fortunate mistakes at the right time, like when a newspaper company accidentally prints an ad in the wrong paper and under the wrong section. Or, how persistence following up on one forgotten dead child in the family’s history led to the miraculous discovery of the names of the missing great grandparents, whose names had been sought for nearly 30 years. Many stories recount coincidence too precise or too timely to not call them miracles. Reading these stories will give the reader a sense of hope and faith that any challenge in their own research can be overcome, even if only by act of God.
