Well… I’m back. This blog is about as ugly as you can get, but I’m sure that can be taken care of, given time and work on my part. This one’s all mine. There’s no administrator this time around.
As for the GenealogyBlog archives that I spent five years building… Honestly, I have no idea what happened to any of it. My former website administrator, Joe Edmon, doesn’t seem to want to tell me what happened. He doesn’t accept my phone calls or emails. So I’m starting over, with some fresh ideas and lots of enthusiasm for the new year. As time permits, I do plan to rebuild the archives. However, I don’t see that as a priority.
I’ve been predicting great things for genealogy in 2009 – and I’m more enthusiastic about the coming year than ever before. And as my good friend, Tom Kemp would say, “Onward.”
Welcome back!
I realized recently that I had many genealogy files saved on floppy discs for which this computer has no disc drive. Your missing archives reinforce a good object lesson for me: Trust Not in Technology.
I think I will invest in a ream or two of paper and print out my important files of correspondence and .doc files of my dad’s unpublished memoirs. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks. You can’t back up too much – and I’ve made backups of everything for years now. My genealogy data files have backups on top of backups. However, I made the mistake of not backing up the website, which was not in my control. Another lesson learned – Don’t let someone else control you electronic “memories.”
It’s so great to see your blog back! I was on the verge of deleting the link from a handout for a program this weekend. I’m so glad that I clicked it first
I enjoyed reading your “About” page. I vividly remember that motor-coach (and you, of course) from your visit to Tulsa!
Welcome back.
Some of your old content is archived here:

You are right. I was VERY HAPPY when I ran across all that data a while back. Much of the GenealogyBlog archive rebuild will be based on that data.
Thanks so much for your interest in my blog. A lot of GenealogyBlog data is archived at the WayBack Machine website. (Remember Rocky, Bullwinkle, Mr. Peabody, and Sherman?) I figure I can resurrect a lot of my posts from that source. There will be a lot of work involved, but over time, I’m hoping to reconstruct several thousand posts. The up-side of doing that is that I can do away with hundreds of bad links that always creep into old posts.
