The following excerpt is from an article by Nancy Powers in the March 9, 2011 edition of The Age Dispatch:

Glencoe Historical Society president JoAnn Galbraith, of Middlemiss, received the Lieutenant Governor s Ontario Heritage Award from David Onley during a ceremony in Toronto on Friday, Feb. 25.

JoAnn (nee Lucas) Galbraith has lived her whole life in Middlemiss and is proud of her ties to the historic community.

“I listened to the stories and learned the family history from relatives born as far back as the 1850’s,” said JoAnn. “Since childhood I have had a keen interest in the area where I have lived for over 73 years.”

JoAnn was nominated by the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex for a provincial Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award celebrates volunteer achievements in preserving, protecting and promoting local heritage.

JoAnn was joined by her husband of over 50 years Jack, along with Southwest Middlesex Mayor Doug Reycraft, on the trip to Toronto.

“It was quite a nice ceremony,” said JoAnn. “I’m very proud to be one of 10 recipients in Ontario.”
