Brantford, Ontario Genealogy Databases at the Library Website.

The following teaser is from the July 12, 2011 edition of Brant News.

Whether you’re interested in the last hanging in Brantford or just trying to find your family history, the Brantford Public Library’s local history database can help.

The searchable database includes digitized books, including early County of Brant, Brantford and Six Nations history, along with biographies, newspapers, school yearbooks, original content by the Brantford Public Library, pictorial histories and a large selection of historical photographs.

The database launched in June after a more than eight-year process of digitizing the library’s local history resources. It was made possible by a grant from the Ontario government.

“It’s an information portal to show Brantford’s unique heritage through one data set,” said library technician Geoffrey Moyer, who has spent nearly a decade working on the database. “You can do a quick search or an advanced search and find everything in one spot.”

In addition to the digital archives, the Brantford Public Library now has a local history room on the first floor dedicated to history and genealogy.
