I got the following note from Carol Graybill of Colorado – and thought I’d post it here on Genealogyblog to see if any of my readers have suggestions. I wrote her about “Ask Olive Tree,” a blog by Lorine McGinness Schultze, a Canadian genealogist that does a lot of good online work. I’m sure there are others. Any suggestions?
I belong to the Devon, England email group and with it one can ask for help in solving a problem in genealogy of Devon. Is there an online location in the US where one can ask for help? For example, I can find nothing regarding my ancestor, Alexander (Saunders) Haines of New York prior to his marriage in Catskill, NY in 1775. I have checked with many little towns along the Hudson River and the town of Rensselaerville where he died in 1813 and can find no information prior to the 1775 date. I have been at this place with him for nearly 40 years and am about to give up.
Is there a site somewhere that offers advice on such a situation?
