Genealogy to Go! Is the title for a series of guides similar to the Quicksheet and Genealogy-at-a-Glance series, many of which we have reviewed on this site. Each Genealogy to Go is a four-page, laminated guide printed in multiple colors on an off-white (nearly beige) paper stock. Each guide in the series covers information of genealogical and historical value, written specifically for the genealogy market. In this blog, we will review Genealogy to Go! The War of 1812: Canada and the United States.
The War of 1812 guide provides an historical reference of information and resources regarding both Canada’s and the United States’ involvement in the war. In other word, the guide provides a starting point for a concentrated research on the War of 1812 and those involved.
In the guide, each country is examined in turn. A brief history for each country is provided, captured in a colored box setting it apart from the rest of the contents. Listed for each country are the military units and native peoples who fought for each side in the war. Also listed are the battles, listed by date. A key element of the guide is a listing of books and online resources a researcher can use to find additional, more-detailed information about the war and those serving in the war. The Canadian information also includes a short piece on Britain’s role in the war. Sources found in this guide come from all three countries.
