When I visited Washington DC last week, we visited Arlington
National Cemetery and the Arlington House. In the museum
there, I was delighted to see the Custis-Lee Family Tree
posted as prominently as was the Syphax Family Tree which
connects into the Custis-Lee family……… and the Syphax
family is a black family. (I’m sure a Google search would
tell you more.) But to me that’s a nice thing to see…… it was
truth so why not show and tell the story?
Also, our local public TV station has been running a 10-part series on Sunday evenings titled Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. This is a super-great series…… and almost better than WDYTYA if I might be so bold. A recent episode featured Barbara Walters and Geoffrey Canada and Gates dug into the origins of their surnames. It was so darn interesting and I surely do recommend the shows to you. Check your PBS listings.
