In case you cannot read the writing on this historic photo it says: Mansion in Oklahoma. As I looked at this old photo all I could think was “I’m so glad I was not born a pioneer to have to live dressed like that and work like that in the awful Oklahoma summer heat!!” I’m so glad for mechanical air conditioning and I’ll bet you are too.
This photo was a freebie handout at the recent NGS conference at the Oklahoma Historical Society booth. If I had Oklahoma ancestors, you bet I would check this out. The OHS website is www.okhistory.org. They are located in Oklahoma City (downtown near the State Capitol) and are open for onsite research Monday through Saturday. “The Gateway is an online repository of Oklahoma history, brought to you by the Oklahoma Historical Society. Currently, you can browse through thousands of newspaper pages dating form the 1840s to the 1920s. The Gateway will be the largest repository of Oklahoma newspapers online, and will eventually include resources in other formats. Visit gateway.okhistory.org often to see the newest additions.” Looks like great news if you’ve Oklahoma ancestry.
From the studious to the ridiculous, here is how my Tika handles the hot doggy days of summer……. and bet your pooch does the same thing! (She’s on the heating pad left over from barely three weeks ago.)
But these hot days are perfect for FamilySearch Indexing! Our little group here in eastern Washington have indexed 91,796 names to date (and arbitrated 11,723) ……. and I’m at a paltry 2713…… and I thought that was good until I checked in with our Cynthia Turk………… her personal and her group’s indexing numbers are ten times ours!! Way to go, Ohio group!!!! If you’re not doing FamilySearch Indexing, please join the team…….. click to www.familysearchindexing.org, download the simple program, sign up and get to work.
Perfect activity for a hot, hot summer day…………..whether in Ohio, Washington or Oklahoma.
Donna, aka Mother Hen, until next week.
