Alan Mann Speaks on “What’s New”

Alan Mann gives an interesting lecture. I’ve set through many over the years, and always came away knowing something genealogically techie that I hadn’t known before. His lecture on “What’s New in Family History Technology” was reported on by Sharron Haddock in the March 14, 2009 edition of the Mormon Times. Following is a teaser.

Alan E. Mann, one of the accredited genealogists speaking at the Conference on Computerized Family History and Genealogy at Brigham Young University March 13 and 14, said the buzz is all about Application Programming Interfaces or APIs.
“Things are happening at an accelerating and dramatic rate,” said Mann, “and the biggest news is about cooperative Web sites.”

Mann said the interaction between sites and databases will make it easy to pull in all relevant information about a particular family or individual from one place.

Alan posts his lecture materials at his website (going all the way back to 2004!). There’s a wealth of knowledge to be gained there.
