“The references cited are mainly accounts of particular family lines and vary from fond and emotional accounts of families and their ancestral home to dispassionate, well-researched and fully documented family studies and pedigrees.” In other words, the listings represent the same basic collection of family history materials, with all the bonuses and the occasional pitfalls, one can find for any genealogical collection. The upside to this collection, as the author points out, is the degree to which a human connection is felt and can be made from the materials referenced. The author acknowledges that in no way can this book serve as a comprehensive list of all available material. However, he does state that when given the choice he erred on the side of inclusion in this list as to provide the most information as was reasonable to include based on the criteria he set forth in creating this reference. For example, there are many items that represent articles only a few lines long but of great worth. He also included a few biographies which covered more than the primary family of interest but, still carried such vital information as to warrant inclusion over exclusion.
