Heard a quote this week that has quite stuck in my mind that is applicable to many areas of our lives. Here tis:
Never let what you do not know unravel what you do know.
Since for years I’ve likened all my learning to genealogy here’s how I applied this great bit of wisdom to our favorite hobby. If you have done really good research…………… really followed the steps to define a problem, look for an answer to that problem, evaluate the evidence you find, and then and only then add that information into your family tree……. then do not let some new undocumented bit of information that you might stumble upon in your web surfing unravel what you already know………..what you have already studied out and feel fairly confident that is correct. Let’s plan to do genealogy and not general-ology.
And doggoneit, don’t we all do that all too often?? Make a pre-December resolution to yourself that this time on the Salt Lake Christmas Tour you will look to source and document every jot and tittle of information you find so you will end the week with really-truly-honest-to-goodness new ancestors…………..an unraveled project!
