The new beta site for Family History Books is available, and a great opportunity for researchers to familiarize themselves with what is likely to become a very popular service.
“Family History Books is a collection of more than 40,000 digitized genealogy and family history publications from the archives of some of the most important family history libraries in the world. The collection includes family histories, county and local histories, genealogy magazines and how-to books, gazetteers, and medieval histories and pedigrees. The valuable resources included in Family History Books come from the following partner institutions:
- Allen County Public Library
- Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library
- Brigham Young University Hawaii Joseph F. Smith Library
- Church History Library
- Family History Library
- Houston Public Library – Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research
- Mid-Continent Public Library – Midwest Genealogy Center“
Image being able to access a digital copy of any family genealogy, any town history, any records abstraction, any and every book held in this incredible collections. No more waiting for microfilm to arrive. No need to travel to the library just for one resources. They will all be available on your computer, you iPad or tablet, at any time and any place you find an Internet connection. In June, 1,500 books were added. In all, more than 40,000. This is a great start to a very big and exciting project. We will keep an eye on this one.
I browsed through the Family History Books website and found several of my family histories that had previously only been at the Family History Library in text. I’m excited to pull these resources from home!
