Geoff Rasmussen reported this morning that Internet Explorer 8 is now ready for download – and looking at the site, it seems to be out of Beta. Which, when it comes to Microsoft products, probably means nothing…
The new version supports the following operating systems:
- Windows XP
- XP x64
- Windows Vista
- Windows Vista 64-bit
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2003 64-bit
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Server 2008 64-bit
I see that a new version for Mac OSX has not yet been released. I still have the earlier version for Mac on my machine, and it’s the only browser that I know of that doesn’t display GenealogyBlog correctly. It currently throws my right-hand column down to the bottom, below the posts.
Why anyone continues to put up with Explorer is beyond me. Apple’s Safari is available on Mac and PC platforms, as is Mozilla’s Firefox. The new Safari 4 Beta is stable, dependable and fast. Don’t settle for second-rate software.
I fully agree with Bud about Internet Explorer. I use a Mac, and as I mentioned in my post, Internet Explorer for Mac won’t even display GenealogyBlog correctly. I use Safari (having now downloaded the new Safari 4 – beta) for most purposes. When a website isn’t built to display in Safari, I’ve found that Firefox always seems to do the job.
