The following announcement about the opening of a family history exhibition at the Trowbridge Museum in Wiltshire, England is from the March 23, 2009 edition of the Wiltshire Times.
Archaeologist, writer and broadcaster Julian Richards will officially open a family history exhibition at Trowbridge Museum on April 4.
The BBC’s Meet The Ancestors presenter is an appropriate choice for the exhibition, which is called ‘Facing the Past: Unearthing Your Family History’.
Clare Lyall, curator of the museum, said: “Julian presented a series called Meet The Ancestors so it is very apt for him to be opening an exhibition, which aims to guide the public through the process of researching their family histories.”
The exhibition will show visitors how to make their own family trees, advise them on using the internet to trace their family, learn how to date old pictures and read old handwriting and discover the histories behind surnames.
Children’s activities will include one on matching the baby pictures to the adult.
There will also be a book stall provided by the Wiltshire Family History Society.
The exhibition opens at midday on Saturday, April 4 at Trowbridge Museum in The Shires shopping centre.
