Ask Olive Tree

My friend, Randy Seaver, noted this morning that Lorine McGinnis Schulze has started a new blog, titled “Ask Olive Tree,” where she answers genealogical questions. The questions and answers are posted on the blog where they can not only help that person, but anyone else who may have a similar problem – or even a family relationship!

Lorine knows her stuff. She owns Olive Tree Genealogy, and a number of other sites. She’s posted all kinds of data on her sites, and has done tremendous work in the area of Canadian research, ship passenger lists, and immigration in general. We wish her success with the new blog.

A Note about Queries

At Lorine’s new Ask Olive Tree site, she links to a short column titled Good Query, Bad Query. She outlines five important things to remember when writing or posting a genealogical query. Simply put, they are:

  • Remember the Three Rules – Name, Dates and Location!
  • Tell where you have already looked
  • Tell what you want to know
  • Write a descriptive subject line for your email
  • Leave lots of white space!

For details, see Lorine’s list.

  1. Thanks for the welcome back, Larry. As you know, I’m addicted to this blogging stuff, and I feel I’m finally back on track again.
