The Yellow Medicine County Museum is now reporting that they have finished extracting the birth records for Yellow Medicine County from 1870 to 1910. 12,296 birth records were put into an Excel spread sheet. Genealogists can access these records via the county website or at the Medicine County Museum.
Birth records for these pre-statewide registration years were never shared between Yellow Medicine County and the State of Minnesota. Minnesota does not have them on the State Birth Records Website. Expect the state to integrate the new information with the birth records they already have on file. Sometime soon, researchers will be able to access birth records from 1870 to 2000 via either the county or state websites.
Click on this link to go the the County Museum’s site, download an excel spreadsheet with the birth records from 1870 to 1910. The link is in the upper right-hand corner under YMC Birth Records 1870-1910. Note that the data set runs under Microsoft Excel.
I downloaded the spreadsheet. It was 6.1 meg in size and covers all 12,296 records. The spread sheet has fields as follows:

- Child’s First Name
- Child’s Middle Name
- Month
- Day
- Year
- Book
- Page
- Line
- Comments
- Sex
- Race
- Place Born
- Father’s First
- Mother’s First
- Maiden Name
- Father’s Birthplace
- Mother’s Birthplace
- Occupation & Age
- File Date
As with any spreadsheet, sort the columns as you like.
