Fourteen Important Oregon Indexes Found at the GFO Website

The Genealogical Forum of Oregon has some good indexes gfo-logo for those of us with Oregon roots. Each index is preceeded by an explanatory paragraph or two about the resource. If a copy service for the original document is available, fees and the address is listed.

On the home page is a search engine that will search the entire site, the indexes, the catalog, or family histories. Selecting “Indexes,” I searched on the surname of Claussen, finding 1 obituary and four marriage citations. Note that the only thing that this search does not search is the WWI Draft Registration Index. You need to go directly to the WWI Draft Registration index to check those.

Provisional Land Claims
4,137 claims indexed from Genealogical Material in the Oregon Provisional Land Claims.

Donation Land Claims
7,373 claims indexed. They have records on microfilm.

Early Settler Forms
2,226 forms indexed. They have the submitted forms.

Multnomah county marriages
34,286 marriages from 1855 thru 1910. They have the original documents.

Spencer Leonard (and other) Military sources
19,945 entries. They have created a database of sources.

1890 Veterans Census
6,467 Oregon records indexed. They have census pages on microfilm.

Register of Veterans at the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Roseburg
1,556 entries. They have records on micofilm.

WW1 draft registration
179,758 Oregon records indexed. They have records on microfilm.

Portland death certificates
12,522 records indexed. They have records on microfilm.

Oregon obituaries
22,855 entries indexing several books of newspaper clippings.

Funeral notices
320 records indexed. They have scanned the originals.

St. Mary’s Cemetery
4,322 entries from the index to Connie Lenzen’s St. Mary’s Cemetery, Portland’s Pioneer Catholic Cemetery. This book is in their library.

Yearbook pictures
6,613 photographs indexed. They have the yearbooks.

State office-holders
239 records (not an index, just a list, includes links to bios)

Jackson County Genealogy Library in Southern Oregon has indexes to thousands of obituaries ranging in publication date from 1867 to 2009, as well as birth announcements, death certificates, wedding announcements, marriage certificates. The cream of the crop is the cemetery/death listing that includes photos of headstones and listings for all cemeteries in Jackson County Oregon. Contact us for Oregon resources!
