Word has been received that there is a new lineage group.
The Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva is a new international lineage group for those who are descendants of Lady Godiva. The first meeting will be held April 13, 2014, at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C. Lifetime membership is offered now to descendants who can prove their lineage of descent from Godiva. The Society is taking applications now, and for more information about the society and the application process, please contact Lady General Davine Roberts at DavineR@aol.com
Hello Leland,
Thanks for the blurb about the Society of the Descendants of Lady Godiva. I have already had responses!
Davine
Davine,
Excellent. I wish I had the ancestry so I could join!
Leland
Does the Society have a web site where people can find out more information?
Hi Dawn,
The Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva does not have a webpage yet, but we are working on that now. We do have a Facebook page which I have not advertised – just google Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva, and it will come right up for you. Of course, you or anyone else can email me at DavineR@aol.com to obtain more information and the instructions and the application. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Okay, tell me more about this society. What does it plan to do? Cost? I am descended through the Welsh to William de Braose & Maud and then on through a bunch of Harcourts to Gateway Thomas Dudley, can send a line od descent if you want it..
Have not had a response to mine of Dec 28th. Can you respond now?
I really don’t know the details about the organization. I’d contact Davine Roberts at DavineR@aol.com for more info.
Will a list of “gateway” ancestors be included on the site?
I can prove my lineage to the Lady, assuming you’ll accept Frederick Weiss references and so on. I’m thinking about this for my granddaughters. My granddaughter, Abigail, who is home-schooled is 10, and she would submit as a project. However, I don’t even know if you’ll accept minors.Thanks.
Hi David,
Yes, we do accept Weis, and other books as books, too. Weis is the best one for the last 5 or 6 generations to Godiva. We already have state societies forming. The Florida Society has their second annual meeting in Orlando on February 6, 2015.
The only requirement for membership is descent from Godiva, and there are no gender or age restrictions – birth to death. If you act fast you can get your granddaughter in on our Lifetime Charter Membership, which is only open until March 15, 2015. After that date we only have Regular Membership, and the application fee goes up $50, and it will then be $300. We will have our 2nd annual meeting in Washington, DC, on April 11, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. at the Army and Navy Club.
Please contact me at DavineR@aol.com, so that I will have your email address, and I will forward your request to our Genealogist General Tracy Crocker. He will send the application and other information as well.
Thank you for you interest in the Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva, and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

We think my wife is a descendant of Lady Godiva. I have a copy of the application provided by another member. I am not familiar with the term “Gateway Ancestor”. Please provide a definition.
I see an earlier blogger, Cary Stone-Greenstein, said they are related “through the Welsh to William de Braose & Maud” and so is my wife. Cary said their “Gateway Ancestor” is Thomas Dudley, but I do not see Thomas Dudley in my wife’s line.
Next two questions.
1 My wife is a member of the “Colonial Dames of the XVII Century” and her application has proven her line for 6 or 7 generations back. Can that application be used to prove that portion of her line for this organization?
2 On the far other end, once I prove the line back to some point previously accepted by this society, can I skip some of the requested information on the application?
I look forward to any feedback. I am glad to share my email which is gatesrh@aol.com.
Thank you, Dick Gates, b. 1937, married to Nancy Ann Titus (Gates), b. 1940
Dick, I sure hope you received a response to your email. A Gateway Ancestor is an ancestor who first came to this country and also links to royalty. Please visit our website at societyofdescendantsofladygodiva.com, and complete the contact form and send it to me at DavineR@aol.com. There is a published list of the ancestors who have been proven to have Lady Godiva lineage, a list of our officers, and all of our semi-annual newsletters, in case you would like to view them.
Thank you for your interest in the Society of Descendants of Lady Godiva.
