The Lake Helen Historical Society Museum Opens

LAKE HELEN [Florida] – With more than 120 years under its belt, Lake Helen has a rich history. Aside from the 71 historic buildings that comprise the city’s historic district, though, much of its past has been tucked away in attics, garages and storage closets – until now.

Thanks to the Lake Helen Historical Society, with help from the city, the Lake Helen Historical Society Museum is welcoming visitors to City Hall.

Crews recently completed work on an old classroom in the former schoolhouse that was converted into City Hall after the city purchased the building a decade ago for $136,750.

… Now the museum is filling with trinkets and treasures reminiscent of the long history of Lake Helen and its neighbor, Cassadaga.

The historical society, formed three years ago, has led the effort to bring more items of interest into the museum, which is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment.
