Hendersonville NC – The WNC Historical Association will present its Outstanding Achievement Award to Dr. George A. Jones at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Henderson County Genealogical and Historical Society’s monthly meeting at 400 N. Main St. in Hendersonville.
WNCHA has presented its Outstanding Achievement Award annually since 1952 to honor and encourage efforts on behalf of regional history. Jones is being honored for more than 25 years of work in promoting and preserving the history of Henderson County.
“Dr. Jones is an extremely worthy recipient,” WNCHA board members Ray Elingburg, longtime member of the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society, and Ron Holland, former manager of the Western Office of the N.C. Division of Archives and History, said in a news release. “As a result of his untiring leadership, the genealogical collection of the Henderson County Genealogical and Historical Society has made a significant contribution to the regional history of WNC.
