From time to time I get calls from folks who would like to know more about the current state of Family Roots Publishing’s Map Guide to German Parish Registers series of research guides.
As of today, this is how the project stands:
We’ve been at the publication of this series for a decade now, producing a total of 46 volumes. Volumes 47 and 48 (East Prussia II & III) are in progress and we expect to have both of them shipping before the end of May.
With East Prussia behind us, we will only have three of the old German states to publish books for:
- Pomerania (Pommern) – 2 volumes
- Posen – 3 volumes
- Silesia (Schlesien) – 4 volumes
Besides the above volumes, we plan to produce a couple books dealing with research in the “Free Cities,” laid out much as we did the volume on Brandenburg’s Berlin.
So I think we finally have a pretty solid number as to how many books the series will be when complete, and that looks like 59 – up a total of 19 books from the projected 40 volumes in 2004. At that time, we really didn’t fully understand what we were getting into. We now expect to have the series finished in the spring of 2015.
Great news! It feels as though I’ve been waiting for the Silesia volumes forever…now, I can start to get really excited with their publication being so close. Thanks for the update!
