Think about it… Genealogists love the ease with which we can get information from the Internet. But we know it’s not all here… So we still end up in libraries and archives – a lot! And at the library, who do we go to speak with (especially if we are unfamiliar with the collection)? The reference librarian, or maybe a local history librarian. These folks step in when a living-breathing search engine is needed. The following excerpt is from an article in the April 16, 2009 edition of the Rome News-Tribune.
There’s something to be said about the power of the Internet, being able to type just about anything into Google and finding an answer to a question without much hassle.
But what happens when Google or any other online search engine can’t find the answer? Sometimes there’s nothing better than a real live person armed with knowledge.
This is where people like Diana Mills step in and where libraries truly shine.
Mills is one of Rome-Floyd County Library’s reference librarians, and her job boils down to this: helping people find answers to their questions through research using not only the Web, but also books.
