Potential Child Brides Revolt in India

There’s an interesting article in the April 24, 2009 edition of the Christian Science Monitor dealing with a revolt on the part of a few Indian children whose parents wished to marry them off at the ripe old age of 12 years – even though 18 is the legal age for girls to marry in India.

It seems that enforcement of age laws is hampered by the lack of birth records in India, where only 40 percent of births are registered. Worse yet is Bangladesh, where only 10 percent are registered.
