A few years ago I bought a tiny book entitled “Employee Social Security Record” on eBay. I use it as an example in a couple of my lectures. The booklet is only 2.25×4 inches in size, saddle stapled, and contains 24 pages to be filled in by an employee who wished to keep track of the money paid into Social Security.
This little booklet was owned by Frank Roscoe Lofton, SS # 540-09-7885, 2805 NE 64th Ave, Portland, Ore. According to the booklet, Frank worked for Portland Traction Co., 2805 NE 66th, where he was an operator in the Trans. Dept. He had worked there since 1919. Frank’s first entry in the book is Jan 10, 1937, with total earnings of $57.57, with 58 cents deducted for Fed. O.A.B. (Federal Old Age Benefits). According to the booklet, he was paid twice a month, and he kept an accurate record of his earnings and deductions in the booklet right up until May 25, 1940.
Following are scans of the booklet. Note that I did not scan the blank pages.
Checking the Internet, I find Frank Roscoe Lofton with his wife Blanche Degood in three separate records:
