Those pesky pictures – and what to do with them – weighs on the minds of many of us. I have pictures scattered everywhere – on various Internet sites, hard drives, iPhoto and a few thousand in the closet. I still haven’t found a way of physically dealing with all these things. Goodness, some days I take several dozen just of grandson Robbie alone (like yesterday – Robbie scooting across the rug, Robbie in his car seat, Robbie yawning, Robbie laughing, Robbie & Grandma next to Grandma’s big pretty flower, Robbie in his swing, Robbie just sitting staring at Grandpa, etc. ). It also takes much longer to ID and store these things than to take them…
I just ran across an article that I identify with – and I think you will to. The following teaser is from an article called Have Camera, Will Shoot, and Shoot; by Michelle Slatalla in the May 28, 2009 edition of Ocalla.com. You gotta’ read the whole thing… Not just the exceprt.
“FINAL notice,” the e-mail message said. “Do you know your photos may be deleted?”
When the people at Kodak Gallery sent that warning earlier this month, they must have had me confused with the sort of customer who wants more family photos to keep track of. Maybe that person would think it’s a good deal to pay $4.99 to archive family snapshots online for another 12 months.
But I’m the opposite. I lost track a long time ago, in a confusing era of constantly changing technology, of how many pictures I have, what format they’re in and where they’re archived.
My first reaction to the message, in fact, was: What photos?
I wish I could remember. But over the years I’ve scattered so many images in so many places (remember CDs? And floppy disks?) that I couldn’t begin to tell you what’s online at Kodak Gallery.
