Today was Blue Monday – said to be the most depressing day of the year and it all seems to make sense to me.
Blue Monday is a name given to a date stated, as part of a publicity campaign by Sky Travel, to be the most depressing day of the year.
The Blue Monday date was first published as a Sky Travel a press release. The research was done by Cliff Arnall, a former part-time tutor attached to Cardiff University. He claimed that the date was based on a number of things, including:
- Weather conditions
- Debt level
- Time since Christmas
- Time since failing our new year’s resolutions
- Low motivational levels and feeling of a need to take action
I’d say that the “Time since Christmas” is most likely directly tied to the previous “Debt level.”
Thanks to Paul Harvey for bringing this to my attention today. Now I have an excuse for being so pessimistic about things.
