Historic Preservationist Mitchell Dan Hoyle Dies After Car Wreck

A man instrumental in the restoration of Hoyle Homestead died Saturday at Frye Regional Medical Center in Mitchell Dan HoyleHickory.

Mitchell Dan Hoyle, 67, of Forest City, died after a vehicle wreck in Conover. Conover Police told the Hickory Daily Record that he and friend David Bartolotta, 61, of San Francisco, Calif., were struck by another vehicle after coming off an Interstate 40 exit onto Thornburg Drive. Police are still investigating the wreck.

Hoyle had a passion for working with historic buildings, said Lucy Penegar, who knew Hoyle through the Hoyle Homestead project.

He was also restoring a home across the street from the Hoyle Homestead that was built in the early 1830s.
