Museums rarely stay static. They continue to collect – and grow in the process. The same goes for the King’s Own Border Regiment Museum. However, they need money to make this all happen. Following is an excerpt from a much longer article.
The King’s Own Border Regiment museum has announced plans to move from its current home – inside the inner ward of Carlisle Castle – to the castle’s much larger Alma building.
And, with Alma due to be vacated by Cumbrian archives next year, they have launched a £1 million appeal to get the cash they need to relocate. It’s a move that will make a world of difference to the museum, which has now outgrown its current home thanks to its popularity and the generosity of those who donate exhibits to it.
“The collections have grown – as museums do,” explained Stuart Eastwood, the curator.
