Scituate, Massachusetts Historical Society’s Little Red Schoolhouse Reopens Today

Scituate Historical Society's Little Red Schoolhouse

Scituate — On Saturday (that’s today!), Nov. 14, residents from across the country can once again resume their historic and genealogical research in Scituate, as a six-month-long closed window to the past will be reopened at the Little Red Schoolhouse.

“Scituate is such an old and original community,” said David Ball, president of the Scituate Historical Society.

That’s why, he explained, many people from across the country will come to the newly restored schoolhouse to learn about both the town’s history as well as their family’s. According to the schoolhouse’s archivist, Carol Miles, there is no distance Americans won’t travel to track down their heritage and investigate the town’s unique historical data.

Six months and $135,200 later, the building now features fresh décor similar in style to the original, a completely overhauled layout and fresh coat of paint.

“I think the public will be blown away by the transformation,” said Ball.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 781-545-1083.
