MUSKEGON COUNTY [Michigan] — History doesn’t change.
But sometimes, its location does.
Thousands of documents with historical significance, like century-old birth and death records for Muskegon County residents, are on the move.
The county clerk’s office, which collects and preserves vital records and election documents, is moving from its second-floor home in the Michael E. Kobza Hall of Justice.
The office will be closed today and reopens Monday across the street at 141 E. Apple Avenue in what is known as the county’s “South Campus.” The clerk’s circuit court operations will remain on the sixth floor of the hall of justice.
The move is part of the final phase of renovation to the county building, 990 Terrace.
The clerk’s staff worked with a moving company Wednesday to carefully pack bounded books filled with birth and death records that date back to the 1800s.
