Do you have or know someone in the United States that has Iranian roots? Despite the current tensions between Iran and the United States, family history spans all cultures and political persuasions. I just ran across an extensive article by Anne Hart dealing with resources for folks with Iranian/Persian ancestry at the allvoices.com website. Ann writes extensively on numerous topics, including genealogy. She wrote several articles for me when I was the editor of The Genealogical Helper.
The article gives a lot of information for research in California libraries, but goes on to give extensive listings of organizations, libraries, groups and such that have Iranian materials scattered all over the U.S.A. A lot of the data deals with Persian Jews. The article is quite long, with a lot of interesting information.
Following is a teaser:
Sacramento has a large library collection of Persian books, media, and culture-related publications. See the article, A Success Story – California Library Association: Weblog Home. What if you don’t read Farsi, though, and are researching Persian/Iranian media history, magazines, publications, culture, or books in Sacramento public and university libraries? Or maybe you want to try recording oral histories in any language?
Sacramento’s Carmichael library branch has a special Persian collection. The branch also has books in various world languages. The California Collection features literature about California’s magnificent history.
