It is with great pride that the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois (JGSI) announces that JGSI Board Member Judith R. Frazin was awarded with The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) “Outstanding Contribution to Jewish Genealogy via Print” at the 30th International Conference on Jewish Genealogy conference held July 11-16, 2010 in Los Angeles.
The IAJGS is an independent non-profit umbrella organization coordinating the activities and annual conference of more than 75 national and local Jewish genealogical societies around the world. More than 1,000 genealogists from around the world attended the five and a half day conference, which ended with its banquet and awards presentation.
Judy was honored for her book A Translation Guide to 19th-Century Polish-Language Civil Registration Documents (Including Birth, Marriage and Death Records). After years of researching her relatives using old Polish documents, Judy decided to help others avoid the many frustrations she had faced. Because of her efforts over twenty five years and three editions of her book, thousands of people have advanced their research efforts by being able to locate, acquire and successfully translate numerous genealogically relevant documents. This includes not only individual purchasers, but also those who have used her books at the 100 or so research institutions around the world which have added her books to their reference collections.
