The National Genealogical Society Announces New Director: Jordan Jones
(3 November 2010) The National Genealogical Society (NGS) announces the appointment of Jordan Jones, of Raleigh, North Carolina, to a two-year term on the Board of Directors. Jordan has been appointed to the board to contribute his expertise in the evaluation, architecture, development, and support of information technology solutions
Jordan Jones received a BA in Honors in English with a minor in Philosophy (magna cum laude) from California State University, Northridge, and an MA in English from UC Davis. He has been an amateur genealogist since 1973; has designed, edited, and published books and magazines since 1987; and has designed and published websites since 1995. He has published poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and works in translation in numerous magazines and anthologies, and is the author of two books of poetry, both of which include poems based on family history subjects: Sand & Coal: Poems (Futharc Press, 1993) and The Wheel: Poems (Leaping Dog Press, 2005).
Jordan has worked in the fields of technical writing and software development. At Cisco Systems, he has been a business architect and is currently a senior software development manager for content management systems. These systems support a global authoring community of over 65,000 and deliver 70 percent of the content of Cisco’s website, with more than three million US monthly visitors. He has developed and maintained several websites for authors, book publishers, religious organizations, professional genealogists, and genealogical societies (including the North Carolina Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the North Carolina and Virginia Genealogical Societies). He also serves on the board of directors of the North Carolina Genealogical Society.
Jordan has spoken at several regional, statewide, and national conferences, both in the fields of technology and genealogy, including the 2009 NGS Family History Conference and the 2006 Content Management Strategies Conference. He writes the “Technology” column for the NGS Magazine.
