As with most genealogical societies, the Livingston County Genealogical Society in Michigan collects, preserves, and makes available to the public, information on people who have lived in Livingston County. The group also helps researchers searching ancestors in Livingston County, no matter where they live, as well as those who live there, but are researching in other places.
A recent project completed in conjunction with the Ingham County Genealogical Society put on microfilm Stockbridge newspapers from the 1890s to the 1970s. Some of the information covered the southwest corner of Livingston County.
“Over 58,000 sheets of newspaper were ironed flat in order to be microfilmed,” noted George. “We needed to do this because the old newspapers are disintegrating.”
The completed project is available at Howell Carnegie District Library.
LCGS meetings are open to the public and held the first Thursday each month from 7-9 p.m. at the Cultural Hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, across from Howell High School.
